We’re Open for Business

on Mar 25, 2020 in Uncategorized

To our valued subcontractors, suppliers and consultants, On Sunday evening our Prime Minister Scott Morrison said – “2020 will be the toughest year of our lives!” I hate to say it, but I think he’s right. Like most of us, the past few weeks have all been about COVID-19. I’ve been keeping our team up to date, and I’d like to communicate with you all too, hence the reason for this email. Our group of companies – Grampians Excavations, Civilex, Conset, Wamarra and Incore – are still open and we will remain open for as long as we possibly can. We are relieved that construction has been classified as essential work. With both Federal and Victorian Governments implementing their Stages 1 & 2 shutdown – mandatory closure of non-essential services, we are fortunate that this excludes the construction industry and we continue operating. Having said this, we are far from complacent when it comes to COVID-19. To give you an insight, below is an overview of the measures and actions we have put into place at our workplaces to protect the safety of our staff and extended community: Our Executive and Leadership team meet every day to discuss strategy, safety, policies and procedures. We provide daily staff updates ensuring they are aware of the changes occurring. With over 500 staff (120 office-based and the remaining site-based staff), we have divided our office-based staff into small teams spreading them throughout Melbourne and greater Victoria. They work in separate offices to ensure we have business and operational continuity if we were to have a confirmed COVID-19 case. We also have remote teams working from home.We have stopped all external visitors from entering our place of work (exempting staff). We have wash stations, hand sanitisers that have been made available everywhere in our premises. We are implementing handsfree wash stations on our projects. We are in the process implementing greater social distancing with our staff on sites. We have split breaks for all office and site staff. We have plans in place for every shut down scenario. We are prepared for the worst but hoping for the best.We are in constant communication with medical professionals, industry bodies, government and other experts we can learn from.We practice more than...

Our New Line Up

on Jul 25, 2018 in Uncategorized

Grampians Excavations enters a new era with the company announcing its acquisition earlier this month by leading Melbourne-based civil construction company Civilex. The recent acquisition means trading as usual for Grampians Excavations with plans to further support, develop and expand its civil capability and scope in regional Victoria. 2018 may be half over but we are delighted to announce a new era for our growing construction family with a new line up of companies: Civilex, Conset, and Grampians Excavations. Existing as “cousin entities” for over a decade, Civilex and Conset have now formally merged, with Civilex also acquiring Stawell-based company Grampians Excavations. The consolidation of these three entities better positions our company for growth within the state and civil engineering and construction industries. As a company, Grampians Excavations closely aligns with Civilex’s diverse range of infrastructure clients in both the private and government sectors and further complements the myriad of Civilex projects presently delivered. The acquisition provides Civilex immediate access to its large fleet of specialist excavation and earthmoving equipment, and – most importantly – some of the most experienced regional operators in the industry. Grampians Excavations Founders Jim and Karen Leithhead established the business in the 1990s in Stawell. The acquisition will see the Leithhead family retain 25% shareholding and Jim will continue to manage the day to day business. The Civilex Directors – Joe Bartolo, Ray Dando, and Andrew Fairbairn – alongside Jim, will focus on expanding the company in preparedness for Victoria’s largest infrastructure boom. Despite these changes, Civilex Managing Director Joe Bartolo says the core business and project operations of Grampians Excavations will remain unchanged. Last week, Civilex Directors and key staff traveled to Stawell to meet current Grampians Excavations employees in person and to answer any questions they may have had regarding the recent acquisition. Civilex would like to thank the Grampians Excavations team for a great turnout at both the Melbourne and Stawell meetups and we look forward to working...

Civilex Victoria acquires Grampians Excavations.

on Jul 1, 2018 in Uncategorized

Civilex is excited to announce their recent acquisition of Grampians Excavations. The well-established Stawell-based company has over 25 years’ experience in the civil construction industry providing earthworks and civil construction services in both regional Victoria and inner suburbs of Melbourne. Founders Jim and Karen Leithhead established the business in the 1990s in Stawell. This acquisition will see the Leithhead family retain 25% shareholding and Jim will continue manage the day to day business.  The Civilex Directors, alongside Jim, will focus on expanding the company in preparedness for Victoria’s largest infrastructure boom. “We’re excited to embark on a new journey with Civilex. Today our regional business opens a door which will result in a multitude of opportunities for regional growth, expansion of our business and furthering the expertise development in our people,” says Jim Leithhead. As a company, Grampians Excavations closely aligns with Civilex’s diverse range of infrastructure clients in both the private and government sectors, and further complements the myriad of Civilex projects presently delivered. The acquisition provides Civilex immediate access to its large fleet of specialist excavation and earthmoving equipment, and – most importantly – some of the most experienced regional operators in the industry. Joe Bartolo says, “Jim’s connection with the local community and his hard work in building Grampians Excavations over the past 25 years is evidenced by his business success, legacy and the people working for him. We’re thrilled to invest in Jim’s business to further support, develop and expand Grampians Excavations and together foster an employer of choice culture well into the future.” Following the July 1 acquisition Grampians Excavations will be known as Grampians Excavations Pty Ltd, and the change in name will be reflected in a new company logo. Despite these changes, Joe Bartolo says the core business and project operations of Grampians Excavations will remain unchanged. “July 1 will see Grampians Excavations continue operating like any other day. Most importantly Civilex is wholly committed to maintaining the people-focussed culture Jim and his team have established. We look forward to providing Grampians Excavations access to resources and opportunities that further establish Grampians Excavations’ reputation as a contractor of choice in regional Victoria.” The acquisition is expected to assist in Grampians Excavations growth...
